This new programme focuses on developing and implementing sport development plans across each of the counties Big Lottery Fund (BLF) sites. It is the primary role of the BLF PE and Community Sport Coordinator to increase the number and quality of opportunities to participate in sport and physical activity, particularly amongst socially excluded groups. This programme does not deal with any sport exclusively but a range of sports and physical activities that range from traditional sports such as football and hockey to more contemporary activities, dance and pilates for example. A key feature of this programme is the establishment of networks between schools, sports clubs, coaches, governing bodies and community groups.
Capital funding has resulted in new state of the art facilities at 6 dual-use sites across Denbighshire. These projects include:
- International standard all weather pitch at St. Asaph Leisure Centre
- All weather pitch at Llangollen Leisure Centre
- New changing facilities at Ruthin Leisure Centre
- A multi-use games area at Christchurch Primary School, Rhyl
- Refurbishment of gym at Prestatyn Leisure Centre
- Refurbishment of Rhyl Leisure Centre
